Driver Select Guidelines for Drivers

Driver Select is a feature of Ride Scheduler software that allows drivers to select their own rides.  The purpose of enabling this feature for drivers is to reduce the workload for dispatchers and to optimize the allocation of drivers to patient ride requests.

Drivers require approval from Dispatchers for their region to be provided access to Driver Select.  Drivers go through a brief training exercise before receiving access to utilize Driver Select.   Training will be provided and any inquiries or questions about Driver Select should also go to RSHelp@volunteercancerdrivers.com and someone will get back to you

Drivers should follow these guidelines once they are set up to use Driver Select:

  • Choose rides that originate close to your home
  • Refrain from cherry picking and choosing just rides with short travel distances, short wait times, favorite location, etc.
  • If possible and it works with your schedule try and select rides from days that appear busy and have many ride requests
  • Once you “accept” the ride, the dispatcher receives an email that you’ve taken that ride
  • If a problem arises and you made a mistake or are unable to fulfill the ride request, you can “unaccept” the ride to release it from your schedule and have it return to the pool of available rides to be fulfilled
  • For those of you who drive multiple times a week don’t fill up your schedule with rides, leave some openings so that the dispatcher has driver capacity to try and ensure all patient ride requests are fulfilled
  • Select your ride requests before the weekly cutoff imposed by your dispatcher
  • Once you have selected your rides let your dispatcher know of your other availability (if applicable) for the upcoming week
  • Drivers not adhering to these guidelines may have their Driver Select privileges revoked
